How old do you have to be to hire a car?

You need to be at least 21 years old with a full, valid, non-provisional drivers licence (25 for 4WD’s).

Drivers with an overseas licence must have both their country of origin and international licence on their person.

What if get a parking / speeding infringement?

All relevant charges are passed on to the customer in addition to a $50 administration fee.

What is included in the price?

Standard inclusions are 100 free kilometres per day and an excess of $3000 in the event of an incident or accident. You are also covered for one tyre and one windscreen. Additional kilometres and Excess Reduction options are available if required (refer to the Need to Know page for more information).

Do you offer unlimited kilometres?

Unlimited kilometres are available for all hires five days or longer (price on application). Vehicles cannot travel to WA or further south than Mataranka in the Territory and must remain within their designated area of use. No vehicles are allowed to travel into Arnhem Land.

What happens if I exceed my kilometre allowance?

Excess kilometres are charged at 27.5c per kilometre (ask about our tailored packages that ensure you do not exceed the applicable allowance).

Can I pick up or drop off at the airport?

Advance Car Rentals currently do not have an office at the airport precinct – all vehicle movements are from our office located in the heart of Darwin City, at 86 Mitchell Street, which is 15 minutes away from the airport by taxi.

If your flight arrival and departure times are during our normal operating hours (8:30am – 5:30pm) then we can offer you a transfer service free of charge. This is subject to availability and needs to be pre-booked – Terms and Conditions apply.

Can I return my vehicle after hours?

Vehicles returning after normal business hours (0830am thru 530pm) can be parked on the street in front of the office, at 86 Mitchell Street, in the designated council parking bays. Keys can be placed in the safety deposit drop box. Be advised the vehicle remains your responsibility and you are liable for any damage until our staff have taken possession of the vehicle early the following morning. Don’t forget to remove all your personal belongings.

Alternatively, by prior arrangement only, vehicles can be left at hotels and accommodation located within the Darwin CBD. Leave keys at reception and our staff will arrange collection of the vehicle accordingly.

What if I have an accident?

In the event of an accident or breakdown, contact ACR on 1800 002 227. All accidents should be reported to both ACR and where practical the Police (000). The driver is required to complete a Damage Report Form upon returning to our office.

Do I have to fill the car up?

All vehicles are full of fuel at the commencement of the hire and must be returned with a full tank of fuel. Vehicles requiring fuel are charged at $2.50 per litre.

What if there is more than one driver?

There is no additional charge for any extra drivers but they must present their license and sign the rental agreement prior to the commencement of the hire. Drivers must be in the possession of a full, valid non-provisional drivers license. Drivers with an overseas license must have both their country of origin and international license on their person.
